One of the famus centers of pottery in Lesvos was and still is, Agiasos, a very traditional, beautiful and green village at the bottom of “mount Olympus”!

Back in 1911 Anastasis Hatziyiannis, son of Symeon, arrives from “Biga” of “Tsana-Kale” as a refugee, to built a new tradition in pottery, which will last over a 100 years … Anastasis married Marigo Patrakis and had 3 sons ( Asimakis, kleanthis and Yiannis) and 3 daughters ( Vassilia, Amersouda and Maritsa ). He established his own workshop in 1926.The holle family was working there. He was the first who discovered the ancient technic of Black Pots (An Ancient Greek method). He started making these beautiful black Vases with delicate decorations. One of Anastasis sons, Yiannis was the one who evolved the tradition of the family, whith his animal-human complexes making Agiasos ceramics, known to Greece and the rest of the world.

Dimitris Hatziyiannis is son of Yiannis and the “last of Mohicans” who’s continuing the tradition of the family. He was borned in 1970 in Mitilini.Since he was 8 years, he started painting and participated successfully in 2 Painting Contests. He keeps his own workshop since 1995 at the entrance of Agiasos. His ceramics is a variety of houseware pots, like : plates, glasses, jags, animal-human complexes, scuipted vases, candle holders and cetera. The visitors can admire the tradition of the family as continues through the reach variety of things and also tearn through the demonstration of the wheel, painting and all of the other techniques. The workshop is located at the south entrance of Agiasos, right opposite the first gas station.
